BollywoodWorld.com, Actress Mahie Gill says she is a difficult person to understand in real life.
“I am a very complex character in real life, my best friends tell me I am a very difficult person to understand. I can be the most bindaas girl and at the same time I am the most shy person. I am an introvert. I take time to gel with people but once I am comfortable, I can be bindaas,” Gill, known for her roles in films like “Gulaal”, “Dev D”, told IANS.
The actress is gearing up for the release of her film “Sahib Biwi Gangster”, in which she will be seen with Jimmy Shergill and Randeep Hooda.

BollywoodWorld.com, Actor Randeep Hooda’s forthcoming movie “Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster” has some steamy scenes and the actor says such bold portrayals are acceptable among viewers who are trying to open up.
“Because we have been a sexually repressed society, we are opening a bit more and we have come to accept a few things now,” Randeep told IANS in an interview.
“In this film, we have shown extramarital affairs but those things do happen in real life and are spoken about. Boldness in our movie is very topical. We don’t have bad language. There are some intimate scenes but they make sense because they are so emotionally and passionately driven that they seem to be a part of the film very seamlessly. So it’s not done to titillate anybody,” he added.
Mahie Gill and Jimmy Shergill join Randeep in the cast of “Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster”, about love, betrayal and ambition revolving around the three central characters. Helmed by director Tigmanshu Dhulia, it is set for a Sep 30 release.
Randeep, who has moved from the role of a cop in “Once Upon A Time In Mumbai” to that of a gangster in “Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster”, describes his character as an innocent man who falls madly in love with a married woman.
“I play Babloo, who is a young boy employed as a driver at the palace of Jimmy Shergill and Mahie Gill, who are playing ‘sahib’ and ‘biwi’ respectively. Mahi’s character makes him fall in love with her and he falls head over heels for her…that’s where the complexities in the plot start.
“He becomes a passionate lover who will do anything for love and that borders on possessiveness. It’s very complicated yet a nice and innocent character,” added the 35-year-old who took inspiration for this character from the people he grew up with in his hometown Rohtak, Haryana.
“My inspiration for this character went back to my roots in Haryana, to the time I grew up and people I observed. My uncles were drivers and I thought of those times and people around me,” he said.
Finally, the actor, who is also working in the sequel to “Jannat” with Emraan Hashmi and Prachi Desai, says after the success of “Once In A…” things have started looking up for him.
“Things have really changed for me professionally because before ‘Once Upon A Time In Mumbai’ I did take a hiatus from acting, but that film brought me back in a big way. Now other directors and production houses look at me as an actor who can carry bigger parts and a longer screen presence. So it has helped me a lot,” he said.
A management graduate from Australia, Randeep’s stint with movies started with “Monsoon Wedding” and it was followed by movies like “Darna Zaroori Hai”, “D Company” and “Ru Ba Ru” Sahib Biwi Aur Gangster 200x298

Absolute power corrupts absolutely. And the power to create cinema that takes the prevalent language of narration into the domain of the dark and unpredictable is a privilege belonging to some politically savvy filmmakers. Sudhir Mishra tops the list. Tigmanshu Dhulia follows close behind.
The manner in which Dhulia brings into play the murky, sleazy politics of Uttar Pradesh is remarkable for the fusion of lies and truth with the borderline between the two extremes simply blurring.
“Sahib Biwi Aur Gangster” is an audacious tongue-in-cheek homage to Guru Dutt’s timeless classic “Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam”. Don’t believe the director’s protestations to the contrary. Dhulia’s film even opens with an unabashed tribute to Guru Dutt’s film with skeletons being dug out during an excavation.
There onwards there are plenty of skeletons tumbling out of secret places in the zamindar’s (Jimmy Sheirgill) bedroom and other workplaces, all leading to a series of climaxes, many of them aggressively sexual in nature.
Dhulia deconstructs and demystifies Meena Kumari’s alcohol-laden mysterious Choti Bahu from “Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam”. As played by Mahie Gill in Dhulia’s new-age deconstructed version of the old film, the wife is a full-blooded sexually dissatisfied, curious and predatory creature somewhat annoying in her insistence on going against the rules of her husband’s crumbling ‘haveli’.
Scenes showing the wife’s rebellious streak are awkwardly constructed.
It is no coincidence that the intruder in Dhulia’s film is a libidinous over-ambitious driver whose hunger for sex and power drives him to self-destruction. As played by Randeep Hooda, he is quite the opposite of the gentle shy besotted little creature that the Choti Bahu befriended in Guru Dutt’s film.
“Sahed Biwi Aur Gangster” creates a world far removed from Guru Dutt’s classic, and yet the two works are miraculously joined at the hip. Almost every character from the Guru Dutt film is replicated if not parodied in Dhulia’s film. There is even Deepal Shaw playing a modern day version of Waheeda Rehan’s Jabaa from “Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam”.
Waheedaji’s reaction to her new-age avatar is awaited.
Sex and politics fuse into the fading crumbling feudal world of Dhulia’s cinema, creating a potent mix of passion and politics. As the goon, who dares to enter his benefactor’s wife’s bedroom and dreams of taking his place, Randeep Hooda has the best lines and graph graph for his character. Here’s an actor who is yet to get his due.
Mahie Gill plays the desolate wife with an absolute absence of enigma. Meena Kumari didn’t quite know what she was searching for. This woman knows exactly what she wants and finally gets it through the nozzle of the gun.
Jimmy Shergill has over the years evolved as an actor of subtle skills. As the embittered husband and doddering landlord he brings to the storyboard a kind of gentle persuasiveness that goes beyond the narration. His scenes with his father’s mistress are gems conveying wry disdain for a woman who controls the resources of a rapidly crumbling feudal kingdom.
Dhulia is in the habit of bringing into play the political forces that determine human nature in Uttar Pradesh.
“Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster” turns progressively Shakespearean towards the end with three protagonists hurling towards self-destruction. As they delve toward doom you are left with no choice but to watch the characters as pathetic paradigms of an era that has long gone.
The crumbling sepia-toned interiors and colour tones scream out a message of live and let live. But it’s too late, Dhulia’s characters are felled by their own greed and lust.
Guru Dutt would have probably choked at this badland bawdy burlesque of “Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam”. Lekin man-na padega, boss. Tigmanshu Dhulia’s homage to Dutt is saucy if somewhat uneven in tone and jagged at the edges.

Mahie Gill is looking for an image makeover — so far she has played intense roles, but now the actress wants to try out a typical masala movie or a comedy.
“I want to explore myself. I want to do a comedy or a masala film. In this profession, you get to play so many roles, you get to travel so much, you get to meet different kind of people,” Mahie told IANS.
Although the actress, who forayed into Bollywood with “Dev D”, says she is happy with the way her career has shaped up but added: “Everything has been very interesting and exciting, but it has not been easy though. The kind of work I was expecting after ‘Dev D’ and ‘Gulaal’, I didn’t get the kind of work I wanted to do.”
“After ‘Dev D’ people started portraying me as a bold actor – whatever offer I got, I didn’t go for it. I was getting commercial films, but the roles I wanted to do, I was not getting it. Every role wanted me to be bold,” added Mahie who also features in “Pan Singh Tomar”.
She will next be seen in Tigmanshu Dhulia’s “Sahib Biwi Gangster”, which also stars Jimmy Shergill and Randeep Hooda.

BollywoodWorld.com, Actress Mahie Gill, who plays an alcoholic in “Sahib Biwi Aur Gangster”, gulped a few pints of vodka to get into her character, but she got so drunk she couldn’t get down to shoot.
“One day Mahie came on the set and said, ‘I am going to do scenes very nicely.’ We had to shoot a song where there was a dance sequence along with a lot of drama,” director Tigmanshu Dhulia told IANS.
“She asked whether she can have the vodka and I said have it. By the time lights were set, she drank one. But the camera setting was taking time, so she drank more,” said the director, adding that after a few drinks “she couldn’t even perform simple steps and somehow I wrapped up the shooting”.
“Later, she came to know that I am angry with her. She felt so bad that she went back from Gujarat, where we were shooting, to Mumbai. She had to be convinced into believing that everything is fine,” said Dhulia. He was here at PVR BluO in Ambience Mall, Vasant Kunj, along with the cast to promote the film.
Releasing Sep 30, the film is set in a small town and the story is packed with intrigue, betrayal and ambition between a beautiful begum, her nawab husband and an ambitious gangster.
Apart from Mahie, the film has Jimmy Shergill and Randeep Hooda in prominent roles.
